Exactly. I think its always better to bear all the legal cost yourself than to have employer do it. Lawyers know who is signing the check and who can fire them. It's worth the cost in the longer run. You might be able to get the cost re-imbursed, but as far as lawyer is concerned , you sign the check.

Neither have i posted about my contributions. The main point is whether one can appreciate the fact that someone (out of their own choice) has created an infrastructure for us to help our own cause through minor contributions. This organization is not for selling services or products.
Get an idea of how many webfaxes have been sent and how many people are signed up for recurring contributions. I don't think i will be too much off the mark, but would be happy to be corrected.
It's actually amusing to see, in the same thread, a graceful gesture from an administrator (willful, unpaid contributor) who apologizes (when none was needed) for the site being down, and another who wants to see results before contributing towards one's own independence.
I usually try not to clog up the threads but I would like to put on a record that this statement is a sweeping generalization. There are many people who are contributing/emailing/faxing/calling the senate offices but not posting about it, myself included. So, a few bad apples do not mean that 11,000 members have sipped tea and coffee.

What are planning now that you have your green card ? How has it improved your lot personally and professionally ? How do you plan on capitalizing on your green card (apart from the fact that you can take up fulltime opportunities) ? For the sake of heavens, please don't mention how you plan on incorporating and file H1B visas. I have nothing personal against incorporating, I am incorporating myself to be able to do corp-to-corp contracts.
Coming down to me, I have a masters in comp eng from an approximately 50 ranked college, as ranked by usnews.com. I also have six years of supporting infrastructure environments. I have solid references at linkedin.com. I have coded at topcoder.com but my rating is in the bottom 10% as I lacked the will to spend time and energy. I really like to work for a startup in California. I recently failed a written interview with a startup with a few founders of Indian descent. I will continue looking. I am also looking for better paying SOA contracts. Personally, I want to spend more time meditating and connect to God. I believe each thought affects the whole world. I believe in Karma. Well, then ask him whether they will vote for BJP then they become secular.Bull Crap. Make up your mind first, then we can have a conversation. From what I have gathered on the boards, you can quit your job with I-140 approved, 485- pending (having your AP), leave the country. come back if you have interview. you will need an offer letter similar to the job in I-140 though (not sure when this be used..) Am in the same boat as you and wondering if i should even bother with all this effin mess they create for hardworking and tax-paying individual!

I invoked AC21 and changed employer in November.
I received an RFE today when my PD is nowhere close to what USCIS is processing. I was wondering if anyone else had any updates on their cases with priority date close to mine.
Is your PD 11/2001 or 11/2002? I saw some folks who got RFE's, LUDs whose priority date is in 2003 (Mine is May'03 and I got soft LUDs on mine last week). So I guess USCIS is pre-adjudicating the applications whose PD is not current. Atleast on some applications...if not all.

The other issue is that my labor got through ..so the lawyer is filing the 1 140 this week and that will give me 3 year extension and enable me to switch jobs if needed or even travel for 3 yrs without getting the visa stamped every year ..
This is why the h1/h4 will be filed once the 1 140 gets approved.
This whole visa/gC thing has so many constraints and factors .. it's a nightmare for an individual but a goldmine for the lawyers.
My company lawyers are so slow .. We shod start a separate thread on bad lawyers .. at least to get the cathartic good feel :)

However, I can give you some information about how things happen in the state that I'm working in - Here every employee gets an "employment-at-will" contract, which means that either party (the employer or the employee) can stop the employment by giving the other a two-week notice (I believe it has to be in writing). If the employee gives the notice and the situation is amicable then the employee helps in the transition process, completes his/her projects, hands over tasks, etc. Also, as another forum member stated earlier, the employee receives his/her full pay, benefits, etc. for this period. If the employer wishes, it may ask the employee to not come to work but that doesn't mean that they don't have to pay the employee. If the employer gives the employee a two-week notice (due to down-sizing, layoffs, etc. BUT NOT DUE TO CAUSE, i.e., the employee messed things up and as a result was fired), then I have seen/heard of situations where the employer tells the employee to not come to work for the notice period BUT they are bound by law to pay the salary, plus the employee is eligible for full benefits for this period.
Two suggestions for you:
1) Get your H-1 B AND your GC transfer done ASAP. Don't waste any time!!!
2) Speak with your State's Department of Labor and seek their advice. If you can't afford an attorney see if there are any online lawyer forums or if there's any pro-bono (free) help that AILA or some other lawyer group can provide.

August 03 2007 USCIS Receipt date update from Nebraska has Typo. It has menioned 07/112007 instead of 07/11/2007 or something.
If anyof us submit an application with minor error like wrong check amount USCIS rejects the application instead of giving RFE, however, when USCIS issues updates with Typo it covers itself with the another update or doesn't bother?
I think, appilcants are at the descretion at the hand of USCIS?

Reason for me asking, I had planned for job change before PD became current last month. New job is much better than current, in terms of Salary. The new employer also wants me to join asap, as now the PD are retrogressed. But I definitely don't want to miss the opportunity on filing 485, if the lawsuit settles in our favor next couple of months.

Just because there are many inactive members don't make ACTIVE MEMBERS INACTIVE.
keep on giving action items and we will see results inactive members will join.
There are a ton of activities and action items for people interested in.
Pick one and get busy. If you do not like to write letter/s, pick something else.

2) Write letters to the media, Press, blogs, writers, reporters. Follow up with them, encourage and ask them to write about IV and the community.

5) Organise other members to form a group to meet your local congressman/woman, house rep or Senator.

7) Participate in a funds drive, ask for donations for IV.
8) Think of creative ways to generate funds for IV.

Is e-filing better than AP - should one have a preference?
We just got AP Documents in mail today. E-Filed on 2/9 and sent the supporting doc by 2/10. Online status still shows pending but to our surprise , we had the documents in our mailbox today (It's for 3 of us).. Thought of sharing the news if anyone looking for how long AP takes.
